William G. Stowe Foundation

Mission

The William G. Stowe Memorial Foundation is dedicated to providing accessible environmental education and resources to the community.

Vision

Access to clean water is a fundamental right, and effective advocacy is an important component in protecting that right. Given this, we believe that access to educational resources allows us to be better advocates for ourselves and our community.

William “Bill” Stowe was a lifelong public servant. Throughout his life, he worked in labor relations, human resources, and as Public Works Director in Des Moines. Following this, Bill served as CEO of Des Moines Water Works, where he fought for Iowans’ access to water. While serving at Water Works, he always had his community in mind, striving every day to preserve the basic human right of clean drinking water. He passed away at the age of 60 in 2019, working until his last days to serve the interests of the community he so loved.
